Catalog Description
This certificate provides students with news research, writing, reporting, and packaging skills for entry-level employment in radio, television, cable, syndicated, Internet, and satellite news organizations. The Multimedia Journalism certificate is also recommended for degree holders seeking to upgrade skills for career transition.
Enrollment Completer Projections
This certificate is an upgrade from our local, Multimedia Journalism certificate of accomplishment. Each year 2-3 people have completed this certificate. We expect the number to grow to 3-5 when the certificate is eligible for financial aid, and because there is growing interest among established journalists to come

Program Goal
The niche of multimedia broadcast journalism is a growing aspect of broadcast journalism. More and more, journalists are expected to tell their story via a variety of mediums. Television field reporters have always been expected to set up their own camera and capture the interview of stand-up, take the footage back to the station and edit if for the evening news. But more and more this type of cross training is expected of all journalists. Radio reporters are expected to capture video so that a version of each story can be uploaded to a Youtube channel or the companies' website. Broadcast companies also expect the reporter to craft a version for Facebook as well as post tantalizing reports on instagram and Twitter. The goal of this program is to prepare media journalists to create these various story versions. For example, the goal and process for creating a long form story is different than one for Facebook. Journalists will learn how to quickly convert video and audio media to the proper format, and how to upload and download them using proper internet protocols. This is a hybrid discipline-No TOPs code is a perfect fit. I chose the most general TOPs code: Radio and Televiaion- But multimedia journalist is also a specific job category: Glassdoor suggests a base salary of $47K and lists jobs nation wide.

Include any other information you would like to share.
This program is also useful for established journalists and media employees to upgrade their skills. Most have learned on the job and therefore are limited in their cross-training. Many of our students already have degrees in journalism but are coming back to retrain and upgrade their skills.
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
