Catalog Description

The Certificate of Achievement in Athletic Coaching can lead to employment as sport coaches at youth sport programs, recreation clubs, or middle and high school athletic teams. The major coursework encompasses kinesiology, personal training, psychology, physical education, athletics, and first aid/CPR training. The program examines developmental patterns of growth, and provides knowledge and skills for coaches to conduct practices and competitions that enhance the physical, social and emotional growth of diverse athletes.

Enrollment Completer Projections
  • We anticipate an annual enrollment of 30 students.
  • Anticipate 5 program completers per year at the end of the second year of program operation.
  • Anticipated 20 program completers per year at the end of the fifth year of program operation.

Program Requirements Narrative

The Certificate of Achievement in Athletic Coaching prepares students to coach a variety of sports and fitness activities. The certified athletic coach program includes courses in kinesiology, personal training, psychology, physical education, athletics, first aid/CPR, along with sport and exercise nutrition content and resources. Students will understand basics of training and conditioning, prevention of injuries, nutrition and recovery, and the fundamentals skills of the sport in their area of emphasis.
