Emergency Medical Technicians are allied health care professionals who work on ambulancesfor fire departments and private ambulance companies. Students completing the Emergency Medical Technician certificate of achievement will be eligible to sit for State of California certifying examination.
Upon completion of the Emergency Medical Technician Certificate of Achievement students will:
- Be eligible to sit for the national certifying examination offered through the National Registry of EMTs.
- Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient's condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care.
- Administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment findings of the patient's condition.
- Lift, move, position and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury.

The Emergency Medical Technician Certificate of Achievement provides a course that is an entry requirement into the Paramedic Certificate of Achievement and Associates of Science Degree.
