Court Reporting (051430)
08/01/26
This program prepares students to capture the spoken record in courts and hearings and to produce certified transcripts that meet professional speed and accuracy standards. Students progress through theory, speed building, readback, and transcript production using either a stenotype track or a voice reporting track. Requirements include coursework in courtroom procedure and ethics, transcript production, Computer Aided Transcription (CAT) or voice recognition operations and dictionary management, readback and on the record management, and legal terminology, with structured labs, timed dictation, courtroom observations or supervised simulations, and a capstone transcript audit. Stackable certificates lead to an associate degree and prepares graduates for licensure readiness.
Prerequisites include college level reading and writing or placement, basic computer skills, and input fluency. Students must furnish their own equipment and supplies. Upon completion of this program a student will be able to produce certified transcripts at program benchmarks, operate CAT or voice reporting software to deliver complete transcript packages on time, apply courtroom procedures and record security, and perform readback and on the record management. The program goal is direct workforce preparation for court reporting with a clear path to licensure.

6/5/26 HH: "It was my understanding that the programs would be withdrawn and resubmitted. If that is not the case, then my vote is NO."
Harriett Happel · 02/27/26
This program is well over the recommendation not to exceed 70 units for a degree. I think we need to have some more discussion before I can vote.
