Include any other information you would like to share.
After working with local advisory committee and local DSN we worked to develop a certificate and courses that would meet the needs of the industry and community. Additionally, this certificate will be available to be completed fully online.
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
Laney College offers a Management and Supervision A.S. Degree and Certificate. The following description of Laney College’s program is from its website: Management and Supervision program is designed to increase working knowledge and develop or enhance current skills of enrolled students currently in management and supervision positions or aspire to become a manager or supervisor in the business, government or non-profit sectors. The program of study combines management theory with day-to-day practical application. Classwork provides an opportunity for actual performance as well as the development of supervisorial and management skills. (See Management & Supervision, https://laney.edu/management-and-supervision/). The courses in Laney’s Management & Supervision A.S. Degree and Certificate focus on creating managers or supervisors in business. Berkeley City College’s new degree focuses on providing students with the skills necessary to start a business and effectively manage the business after it is established. These two programs within the district have different objectives and do not substantially overlap. Given the demand for managerial positions as shown in the LMI data, another program in the regional area will help local business. I have contacted Kim Glosson, the Business department chair at Laney, and she had no objection to our new program.
