Catalog Description

The Santa Rosa Junior College Kinesiology: Sports Medicine Preparation Associate of Arts degree provides students with the opportunity to meet the requirements for transfer to sports medicine-related Bachelor’s degree programs such as Kinesiology, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Athletic Training, Pre-Occupational Therapy, and other preparatory allied health degrees.   The program in Kinesiology: Sports Medicine Preparation prepares students with typical lower division prerequisites for university Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited Athletic Training Education Programs (ATPs); some requirements vary from college to college. Students are advised to meet with a counselor for appropriate campus-specific course requirements before selecting courses.

1. Demonstrate an understanding of sports medicine professions, including history, educational preparation and role of the various members of the sports medicine team.

2. Describe, integrate and apply concepts of prevention,immediate care, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries and injuries to the physically active.

3. Demonstrate effective communication, professionalism,legal and ethical understanding, and general organization and administration within a sports medicine setting.
