Catalog Description

The Teaching Learners with Special Needs Certificate of Achievement is an entry level CTE program. Teaching Learners with Special Needs Certificate of Achievement is the initial level for children with special needs program settings. It serves as an indicator for the student’s academic Child Development Portfolio that they have achieved a level of proficiency to work as an associate teacher in a (private or public) ECE setting. Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to utilize a variety of practices and resources to promote individual development, meaningful learning and social cooperation. Also, the student will be able to practice and demonstrate an understanding of how to promote children’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and linguistic development by organizing and orchestrating the environment in ways that best facilitate the development and learning of young children. After finishing this certificate, student can apply for their Associate Teacher’s permit that requires 50+ days of three hours and more per day of experience. Lastly, student is required to have a Live Scan and TB test to work with children at a school setting.

To complete the Teaching Learners with Special Needs Certificate of Achievement, students must complete all the program course requirements. It is recommended that students consult with the Counseling Office to develop a Comprehensive Student Educational Plan.
