Catalog Description

The Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) Certificate of Achievement prepares students to provide high‑accuracy, near‑verbatim, live captions in classrooms, meetings, and public events, either on site or remotely. Students learn to deliver realtime access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing by using stenography or voice writing with computer‑aided transcription (CAT) software, professional research and proofreading methods, accessibility and privacy practices, and client‑ready formatting and delivery workflows. The program includes a supervised practicum providing hands‑on CART experience in educational and community settings. CART is recognized as a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act and related regulations. Graduates qualify for entry‑level roles such as educational captioner (CART provider), meeting captioner, and remote CART provider, with optional advanced opportunities in broadcast captioning after additional training.

This is a lot of units for a certificate and if based on the degree proposal would require more courses to stack towards a degree in additional the the GE requirements. I propose that more discussion take place.
