The skills acquired during this program will prepare an individual to take and pass AWS B2.1 SMAW 6G pipe welding performance exam. Which also align with standards and qualifications per the American Welding Society (AWS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Petroleum Institute (API).

Program Goal
The purpose of the Pipe Welding and Fabrication Certificate is to provide the student the fundamental concepts used in the fabrication of carbon steel pipe connections and fittings. Emphasis will be placed on student proficiency in welding pipe in the 1G, 2G and 5G positions in accordance with American Petroleum Institute API-1104: Standard for Welding Pipelines and Related Facilities. The Pipe Welding and Fabrication program consists of courses in safety, trade calculations and safe tool and equipment operation on constructing lateral, sleeve, and branch pipe connections commonly used in the piping industry. Use of manual and mechanized thermal cutting equipment is covered. Related math calculations and cutting techniques will be utilized to prepare students for entry into a Pipe Welding and Fabrication careers. The goal of this program to meet the needs of the students who are interested and is intended to be accessible to the student who is interested in welding as a career, including those students who are interested in becoming a Certified Welder. Emphasis will be placed on the development advanced skills welding pipe in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Welding Society (AWS) codes. The sequence of courses developed in conjunction with the welding advisory board ensuring that the program will be preparing graduates for today’s job market and to supply local firms and agencies with qualified technicians for this field.
