Automotive Transmission and Drive Train Technician

The Automotive Transmission and Drive Train Technician certificate of achievement includes an emphasis on elementary operating principles and beginning skill development. The program incorporates theory and operation, diagnosis, service, and repair of automotive automatic transmissions, transaxles, automotive manual transmissions, drive axles, and drive trains.. Coursework aligns with industry standards and prepares learners to enter the work environment with the fundamentals of automotive transmission and drive train systems dealing with maintenance of the modern automobile.

24 students are projected to earn a certificate in this area annually.

Addresses an occupational goal of automotive skill development in manual/automatic transmissions, drive axles and drive trains within CTE (Limited to programs in CTE TOP codes other than ADTs). Skill building courses may be used to earn higher level certificate of achievement or learner can enter employment directly after acquiring certificate.

This program is designed to allow students to become familiar with automotive and manual transmissions, drive axles, and drive train systems for entering the work environment with basic skills. Emphasis in course is on satisfactory understanding of theoretical and practical automotive concepts regarding manual and automatic transmissions, including a foundational understanding of drive train systems within the repair, diagnosis, and service of automobiles. Students must earn a C or higher in each course to earn the certificate of achievement.
