Catalog Description

This program will prepare students for a challenging career in Information Technology with a focus in Cisco® Networking and Local Area Network Administration. Students will develop skills to administer and support data communication hardware such as, file servers, printers and other related peripheral input/output devices. Students will be introduced to Amazon Web Services Cloud Computing and Fiber Optics. Upon completion of this program students are qualified for the Cisco® Certified Networking Administration Certificate (CCNA) exam. The program covers Fundamentals of Computer Internet-working, Protocols, Network Theory and Standards, Cabling, Electrical Considerations, OSI Models, IP Addressing, basic networking Hardware, router fundamentals, beginning router setup and configuration, WAN fundamentals, network troubleshooting, network management, risk management and security technology (Firewalls and VPNs). 

Program Learning Outcomes 

Upon completion of the programs, students will be able to: 

  • Master basic content: OSI Model, Inter-working Devices, IP Addressing, LAN Media & Topologies, Structured Cabling, Electronics.  Demonstrate the knowledge of understanding the various media and topology used in networking and where to apply it. 

  • Demonstrate ability to create resilient, redundant, scalable internetworks by examining, selecting, configuring and troubleshooting a variety of network protocols used in routed and switched internetworks. 

  • Demonstrate ability to describe static routing, dynamic routing protocols, accurately select appropriate routing strategies,  configure/troubleshoot routing configurations that include VLSM addressing strategies and CIDR notation LAN support protocols (NAT & DHCP) along with LAN Switching and VLAN Switching protocols.

The Cisco® Certified Network Associate Certificate of Achievement  (CCNA) program consists of six 6 courses that accumulate the total certificate units.
