Catalog Description

The West Hills College Lemoore Beverage Management program is modeled after local industry competency standards. This program includes study in the following areas: knowledge and understanding of different spirits and the distillation process, liquor laws, wine varietals, beer types, bar tools and equipment, pouring techniques, point of sale functions and operation, and beverage cost control. Students will be prepared for entry level positions in entry and advanced bar positions.

Program Goal

In this certificate program, students are prepared via a CTE academy format intending to lead them to employment upon completion.   

Students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to for employment in the field of beverages.  Local industries include coffee, smoothie, beer, wine, and liquor.  All of these career pathways are in great need of employees with the skills that this certificate offers.  Job placement can be offered to each completor and many will benefit from employment soon after entry into the program.

Program Requirements Narrative

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. PSLO 1: Demonstrate proficiency of safety and sanitation principles behind the bar.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to construct alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge in tools and glassware.
  4. Demonstrate beginning and advanced pouring techniques.
  5. Recognize and demonstrate the requirements for proper sanitation in the beverage service industry
