The Fundamentals of Medical Assisting certificate of achievement is part of a CTE stackable certificate program that introduces students to the healthcare field of medical assisting. Students will be introduced to the first level of administrative and clinical courses that will prepare them to work in a medical setting with a basic skill set. The program is designed to encourage students to pursue the higher level certificates and associates degree in medical assisting to broaden their knowledge base for working in various medical settings and gain experience in internships/practicum opportunities.

Program Goal

The Fundamentals of Medical Assisting program is a 12.5-units CTE Certificate of Achievement program. The program is the first level of a stackable award program that consists of four certificates: 12.5-unit Fundamentals of Medical Assisting Certificate of Achievement, 22-unit Medical Assisting-Administrative Certificate of Achievement, a 31.5-unit Medical Assisting-Clinical Certificate of Achievement, A 38.5-units Medical Assisting Administrative and Clinical Certificate of Achievement, and a 60-unit Associate of Science Degree in Medical Assisting. This low-unit certificate will provide high school and general students with a basic skill set that allows them enter the field of medical assisting and continue on to related higher unit certificates and/or degree program.
