Program Goal

The AS and CA in Marketing and Sales has been updated in order to focus more on their specialty areas of study rather than a broader education after feedback from their advisory committee.  The program is designed to concentrate on core skills in order to offer students a quicker path to the core skills required by an occupational change, career growth, or immediate placement into an entry level position.  Upon successful completion of the program,students will demonstrate the core skills required for an entry-level sales or marketing position.

Item 1.            Program Goals and Objectives

The Associate of Science in Marketing and Sales degree has been updated in order to focus more on their specialty areas of study rather than a broader education after feedback from their advisory committee.  The program is designed to concentrate on core skills in order to offer students a quicker path to the core skills required by an occupational change, career growth, or immediate placement into an entry level position.  Upon successful completion of the program,students will demonstrate the core skills required for an entry-level sales or marketing position.

·        Evaluate the variables of the marketing mix of a business.

·        Develop a sales plan using each of the stages of the selling process.

·        Apply college level critical thinking, research,and problem solving techniques for the completion of business based reports and writing assignments.

The data shows a robust growth in the number of students at Laney College who are in majors that require rigorous training in lower-division computer science courses.

Item 15.          Library and/or Learning Resource Plan

 

Computers are an important topic in any library; Laney’s offerings have been and should continue to be sufficient for our needs.

 

Item 16.          Facilities and Equipment Plan

 

Laney College remains committed to maintain state-of-the-art computer labs. This semester we replaced all of our computers to use the latest hardware and software. The lab is supported by two staff members who keep the facilities current and running.

 

Item 17.          Financial Support Plan

 

The source of support for ordinary costs of instructions will be covered by the general funds available for instruction of courses through the Peralta District. Instructional equipment grants, primarily Perkins funds for CTE program shave been used, and will continue to be used for purchase of new and updated equipment.

 

Item 18.          Faculty Qualifications and Availability

 

The program is part of the Business department in the Human and Social Sciences division of Laney College.  The BUS faculty at Laney College currently consists of 4 full time instructors and 4 adjunct instructors.  All faculty members meet the Minimum qualifications for BUS department faculty.

Item 20.          Licensing or Accreditation Standards

 

All courses taught at Laney College for the program meet accreditation standards for Laney College. Courses will articulate for elective units with transfer institutions but do not necessarily transfer course to course. There are no licensing standards being satisfied by these courses.
