Certificate of Achievement in providing students with courses meeting the requirements to become a National recognized Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Certificate of Achievement courses required to become California State Fire Training (SFT) Firefighter 1 Certification for entry level employment opportunities throughout the state and nation.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Anticipated enrollment: Enrollment is expected to expand and generate an increase in FTES as students now have a clear guided pathway to earn entry level certification requirements. Target population: Entry Level Firefighter is intended to provide for student equity when pursuing entry level Firefighter 1 Certification by attending a traditional 16-week fire academy offered either through the new SWC 281F and 281G (Open Enrollees) or other traditional fire academies in the region. Articulation with existing transfer colleges:This program is modeled after the San Diego Miramar College Program and it isexpected students may take courses between both campuses as needed. AS completionsof 30 per year.

Program Goal

This program is designed to provide students with training and certifications that meet agency requirements for entry level job employment. In addition, the curriculum mirrors that of San Diego Miramar College in an effort to collaborate regionally for students to meet requirements to become professional firefighters. Identify minimum qualifications and entry level skills for firefighter hiring including requirements for State Fire Training Firefighter I Certification.

Program Requirements Narrative

Offers certificates in a number of fields associated with the technology of fire protection, wildland firefighting, rescue and public safety. Provides students with core courses meeting the National Model recognized by Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) module curriculum, the requirements to become a National recognized Emergency Medical Technician(EMT), and Certificate of Achievement courses required to become California State Fire Training (SFT) Firefighter 1 Certification for entry level employment opportunities throughout the state and nation.
