Catalog Description

This program focuses on vehicle systems related either Ford ASSET, Chrysler CAP, or the Import Technician Training Program (ITTP). The courses are designed to provide students with both theory and hands-on skills that will enable them to become entry level technicians at dealerships. After the first semester students will be gaining work experience in the field.

Program Goal

The program goal is to provide training that will assist students in becoming entry level automotive technicians at dealerships. 

Below are the program objectives:

  • Demonstrate safe practices when working on all types of vehicles.
  • Demonstrate how to find repair procedures using service information.
  • Analyze service information in order to diagnose and repair vehicle faults.
  • Perform manual transmission/transaxle diagnosis and repair.
  • Perform drive axle diagnosis and repair.
  • Perform four-wheel drive/all-wheel drive component diagnosis and repair.
  • Perform automatic transmission/transaxle diagnosis and repair.
  • Demonstrate how to perform a HVAC performance test.
  • Diagnose HVAC concerns related to air delivery and compressor controls.
  • Gain experience working in the field.

Program Requirements Narrative

Students are required to complete the drivetrain class. They will then continue with an HVAC course along with two work experiences. 

The program was approved and recommend by the Cerritos College Automotive Department advisory committee on December 19, 2019.
