Certificate of Achievement in Information Technology

This Information Technology certificate introduces computers, networking, and cybersecurity skills and prepares students to enter the workforce as an entry-level information communications technologies professional (Computer User Support Specialist or Computer Network Support Specialist). The program is designed to meet the needs of students who want 1) to obtain entry level employment; 2) to advance in their current positions; or 3) to change careers. This program enables students to demonstrate specialization in areas such as computer technical support and networking. Successful completion of this program prepares students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Exam (CIM 182, 283) and Cisco CyberOps Certification Exam (CIM 284).

The Certificate of Achievement (CoA) in Information Technology (IT) will prepare students for a career as Computer User Support Specialists or Computer Network Support Specialists and students will acquire the following basic core Information Technology competencies:

• Apply fundamental computing knowledge and current technology techniques, skills and tools.
• Locate, critically evaluate, and solve business problems with technology solutions using qualitative and quantitative information.
• Design, implement, and evaluate computer-based systems, processes, components, or programs to meet desired needs.
• Understand the professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities in the information technology domain.
• Analyze the impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
• Understand the relevance of continuing professional development in the information technology domain.
• Identify and analyze user needs in the selection, creation, evaluation, and administration of computer-based systems.
• Explain the use of best practices and technology standards, and their application in an organizational context.
• Increase one’s professional net worth, and start on a path toward career advancement.
• Prepare to pursue a bachelor’s degree in information technology to further your knowledge and marketability.

The CoA in IT,offered as part of the Computer Information Management (CIM) program, directly supports the College's mission and College Goal 3:

This program is designed to be completed in one academic year (it could be completed in one semester if students choose)
