Catalog Description

A Child Development Site Supervisor supervises a child care and development program operating at a single site; provides service in the care, development and instruction of children in a child care and development program, and serves as a coordinator of curriculum and development.  This certificate,  when combined with completing the requirement for an AA/AS degree and appropriate work experience,enables the student to be able to  apply to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for a Child Development Permit at the Site Supervisor level and also enables the holder to apply to be a California Mentor Teacher.

Program Requirements Narrative

This certificate provides the educational coursework that serves as the core curriculum to be a Site Supervisor in the Early Childhood Education field. Students completing coursework for this certificate will exceed the minimum requirements to work as a director/site supervisor in a privately funded early care and education program. With documented experience supervising staff, and the completion of an AA (60 units)  in Early Childhood Education with 24 ECE units, the student also meets the requirements to work as a director/site supervisor in a publicly funded early care and education program, and is eligible to apply to become a California Mentor Teacher.

 

This skills certificate is in line with the goals and objectives of the Human Development/Early Childhood Education program as follows:

Ø Identify and evaluate factors that influence child/human development from various theoretical perspectives and current research findings.

Ø Analyze early childhood programs for developmentally appropriate practices and program effectiveness.

Ø Exhibit professionalism within the field of Early Childhood Education by demonstrating skills relevant to the field that include incorporating meaningful curriculum, content knowledge, culturally and linguistically appropriate learning environments,  and observation, documentation, and assessment of young children.

 

This certificate will be awarded as a result of 9 units of Human Development/Early Childhood Education coursework, specifically the completion of the following three  3(three) unit courses:
