Program Details
Certified Dietary Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional
New Program
Restaurant and Food Services and Management (130710)
07/01/19
Certified Dietary Managers are nationally recognized as the experts at managing dietary operations. This certificate is designed to compliment an associate degree in Nutrition and Food, Sustainable Food and Beverage, or Sustainable Hospitality by providing additional coursework and preparation that leads to preparation for the Certified Dietary Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional (CDM, CFPP) credentialing exam. Alternatively, this certificate will allow those who hold an alternative two-year, four-year, or higher degree with a minimum of five years of institutional foodservice management experience to meet transcript requirements to sit for the exam. The certificate also offers exam preparation to position students to successfully pass the exam.
We anticipate 10 students to earn this certificate annually.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
The Certified Dietary Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional title is nationally recognized for expertise at managing dietary operations. Many work in healthcare settings such as nursing facilities, rehab centers, senior living communities, and hospitals. Others work in correctional facilities, schools, and the military. Employment in foodservice is not dependent on economic conditions, and the profession is expected to grow as the aging population increases the sector of the market involving senior living and long-term care facilities. Additionally, new CMS requirements designate the CDM, CFPP credential as the primary qualification for the Directory of Food and Nutrition Services in long-term care facilities in the absence of a full-time dietitian. This Certificate of Achievement would allow students to meet transcript requirements to sit for the CDM, CFPP national exam in conjunction with a 2 year or 4 year degree in Nutrition or Hospitality from MPC or another school. Additionally, students with alternative degrees will be eligible to sit for the exam after completing the certificate if they have a minimum of five years foodservice management experience. This certificate also offers exam preparation to position students to successfully pass the exam.
