Cosmetology and Barbering (300700)

The curriculum prepares the student for The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Hairstyling Examination. Students enrolling in the Hairstyling Program should contact the Cosmetology Department or a Cosmetology counselor for information regarding the cost of the kit, uniforms, and books. This is a full-time program. Classes meet Monday through Friday, full day. The full-time student may complete The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Hairstyling Examination preparation in one semester.
Prerequisite: ENGL 100 or ENGL 100S or equivalent with a grade of "C" or higher or "Pass"
Classes must be taken as a block (shown below) and within the same session.

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
Complete a minimum of 60 units to include (1) the Associate of Arts Degree General Education requirements; (2) the major requirements; (3) elective as needed.
The curriculum prepares the student for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Hairstyling Examination. Students enrolling in the Hairstyling Programs should contact the Cosmetology Department or a Cosmetology counselor for information regarding the cost of the kit, uniforms, and books. Students attend classes Monday through Friday, full day. The full-time student may complete the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Hairstyling Examination preparation in one semester.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will develop the necessary theoretical and practical skills to define, maintain and complete their personal educational and career goals.
Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with peers and clients from different cultural and social backgrounds.
Students will demonstrate the ability to evaluate client needs, assess different options and develop the best approach to achieve desired results.
Students will develop values and beliefs in their role as members of a culturally diverse society and provide services for their community.
I'm projecting 50-75 students can earn a certificate in a year in this particular hairstyling program.

The mission of the Cosmetology Department is to provide the students with the knowledge and experience necessary to enable them to pass The Board of Barbering andCosmetology written exam in Cosmetology, Hairstyling, or esthetician. With the successful completion of our training program in correlation with the state board exam, the students may proceed directly into the workplace with confidence. Thus, we provide a comprehensive training program in a diverse environment that is conducive to learning and meets the rigors of the salon environment.
