10/20/22
This program prepares students to enter employment as certified powerplant technicians in the aircraft maintenance industry. Training is given in the overhaul of various powerplants and their components. Completion of this program leads to an Associate in Science Degree or a Certificate. Excellent opportunities for employment exist in this area of training. Certain administrative, quality control, and flight personnel careers require the applicant to hold a valid A& P Certificate. This program offers a day (full-time) or evening(full-time) program option. The only difference between the two options is the course numbering and time required to complete the program. Day program courses AIRM 65A and 65B are equivalent to evening program courses AIRM 95A, 95B, 96A,96B, 97A, 97B, 98A, and 98B. Day program courses AIRM 66A and 66B are equivalent to evening program courses AIRM 90A, 90B, 91A, 91B, 92A, 92B,93A,and 93B. Successful completion of this program enables students to take the FAA examination in General and Powerplant. Passing the General Exam plus the Airframe and/or Powerplant Exam provides certification as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician which is required for employment in this field. Students desiring a Bachelor’s Degree (transfer program) should consult with an advisor to discuss transferability of courses.

- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The goal of the Aircraft Maintenance Certificate is to provide students with classwork and practical experience to prepare them for entry-level work as an aircraft maintenance technician. The classwork covers the FAA-mandated curriculum which includes aircraft engines, accessories and systems. It also includes regulations, privileges and legal responsibilities regarding the maintenance of aircraft including small aircraft, commercial aircraft and rotorcraft. Completion of the curriculum within this certificate is a legal requirement for a student to gain an entry-level position as an aircraft technician. This degree may also aid in finding work in other related maintenance jobs such as technicians for elevator repair, theme park ride repair, NASCAR car repair or assembly line equipment repair.
