The Medical Office Specialist Certificate of Achievement will provide today's medical office business professional with the robust management skill set necessary to function successfully in a high-paced, high-tech, results-oriented medical office environment.  Graduates will be well-prepared to enter this high-profile field with the confidence that they have received the knowledge and training sought by 21st-century employers.  Medical Office Specialists with a solid foundation of office management skills and specialized training in medical terminology, customer service, and medical coding are being actively recruited every day in this rapidly growing industry.

Program Goal

The WCC Medical Office Specialist Certificate is in keeping with the Ed Master Plan to meet industry demand at Yolo, Lake and Colusa Counties who are requesting robust allied health support curriculum for both incoming and existing employees. Industry partners such as Dignity Health, Adventist Health, K-12 Districts including our Middle College High School, and Sutter Health are requesting a pipeline of our students as well as an opportunity to offer continuing education for medical office management advancement for existing employees, increasing completion, placement, and transfer metrics.

Program Requirements Narrative

Students completing this certificate will have built a skill set that includes areas such as medical coding, medical office procedures, medical terminology, business communications, and customer service.  Graduates will have mastered communication skills appropriate to the business environment, will have more self-confidence after having participated in on-the-job training, and will know how to effectively champion collaborative teamwork.
