The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate of Achievement program provides comprehensive instruction in the skills necessary for success as an EMT in the emergency services industry. This program is designed to meet the needs of current students and in-service professionals interested in career advancement and for those seeking to advance their EMT knowledge. This program is aligned with the EMT-Basic: National Standard Curriculum. Career opportunities after completion of the certificate include EMT, Emergency Room Technician, and Search and Rescue.

- Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
The Emergency Medical Technician Certificate of Achievement is a Career and Technical Education program, created in response to requests from industry partners and those wishing to expand on their emergency medical services education. This Certificate of Achievement will provide students with evidence of their accomplishment, including the Certificate and the documentation of the awarded Certificate on their transcripts. Students earning a Certificate of Achievement are also eligible to participate in the annual graduation ceremony. In addition, this Certificate allows Oxnard College to remain an industry leader in the delivery of education to emergency medical technicians locally and statewide.
This Certificate of Achievement will serve Oxnard College students as well as in-service EMT personnel looking to complete advanced coursework to aid in promotional processes.
Program Student Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the Emergency Medical Technician Certificate of Achievement students will be able to:
- Apply scientific knowledge in providing prehospital and emergency medical care
- Use effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients and other health care workers
- Operate within the roles of an entry level provider of care and contributor to the EMT profession
- Demonstrate and foster high standards of Prehospital and Emergency Medical practice in skill performance and patient advocacy
- Provide competent and safe care in a variety of settings to a group of patients with diverse needs across the life span by demonstrating knowledgeable decision making and judgment based on critical thinking, clinical competence, accountability and collaboration with the patient and health care team
- To promote the personal and professional growth, health and success of each student
- To promote the concept of lifelong learning, including the pursuit of advanced degrees and advanced practice in the health field
- To prepare graduates who are eligible to seek licensure as EMTs and that meet the expectations of the EMS Community
