Catalog Description

The Geospatial Technologies Certificate provides a comprehensive introduction to contemporary methods and techniques used in GIS and other geospatial technologies to better understand, analyze,and communicate spatial data. The program is designed to prepare students with foundational knowledge and practical skills to employ geospatial technologies to understand spatial problems and inform decision-making in various fields including: urban planning; law enforcement; fire fighting; disaster preparedness and response; politics and government; medicine and disease control; environmental quality, protection, and land management; business;media, marketing, and communications; archeology; anthropology; geography; and more. A grade of C or better is required for each course taken and at least 50%of the courses taken at Fullerton College. The Geospatial Technologies Certificate requires a total of 15 units.

Program Goal

To prepare students with foundational knowledge and practical skills to employ geospatial technologies to understand spatial problems and inform decision-making in various occupational fields including urban planning; administrative justice, crime, and safety; environmental quality, access and protection; land use; business; politics; and more.

Develop knowledge and fluency of data entry, management, and analysis and cartographic presentations for various applications.

Perform spatial analysis utilizing GIS and geospatial technologies,methods, and techniques to inform decision-making in urban and/or environmental fields.

Integrate principles of ethical and effective development and management of geospatial databases, geospatial analysis, and cartographic design.
