Fire Officer
New Program
Fire Technology (213300)
08/10/26
The goal of this program is to enhance firefighter skills by providing an educational pathway for current firefighters who do not need or want a basic fire science degree. It allows current fire and EMS personnel to gain the certifications they need for promotions and is appropriate for students intending to transfer to a Bachelor's program. This degree will also help fire departments because it advances their personnel at a local level and gives their department an advantage by making seasoned firefighters better at their job in the roles of human resources, budgeting, inspections and investigations, and all-risk incidents.
For the AS Fire officer degree, the student must complete the 7 required courses and a minimum of 2 units from the following courses: FIRET-22, 160A, 160K, 120A, or 120B. All program courses are eligible for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL).
As the word gets out, we are hoping to have realistically 10-20 annually.
