This program is designed to prepare students for employment as Smog Check technicians. Changes in the State of California Smog Check Inspector Licensure requirements are driving this change. This certificate is designed to meet the State of California Level 1 and Level 2 license requirements. Students who complete the program are eligible and prepared to take the Smog Check Inspector licensure exam.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
Correctly perform a State of California smog check inspection observing all applicable laws and regulations.
Diagnose and repair emission related faults observing all application laws and regulations.
Identify license requirements and successfully prepare for the Smog Check Inspector License Exam.
Identify professional work habits and employ them to promote themselves and the quality of their work
This COA is expected to increase the number of students earning Automotive Technology certificates or degrees annually by 10-15.

- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
Changes in the State of California Smog Check Inspector Licensure requirements are driving the development of this certificate. This certificate is designed to meet the State of California Level 1 and Level 2 license requirements. Students who complete the program are eligible and prepared to take the Smog Check Inspector licensure exam allowing them to seek employment as Smog Check Inspectors in California. Therefore, the goal/objective of this certificate is to prepare students to earn state licensure and obtain employment as licensed Smog Check Inspectors in the State of California.

AUTO 100 must be taken in the first semester of the program as it is a co-requisite for AUTO 101, 102 103, 104, and a requirement prior to taking AUTO 161 or COOP 91.4. In addition, AUTO 101 and 102 should either be completed, or taken with, AUTO 103.
