The Baccalaureate Degree Program in Regenerative Medicine Biomanufacturing Technologies provides an educational pathway to higher learning. After completing the coursework required by the associate degree programs in Biological Technology - Stem Cell Culture and Stem Cell-Based Biomanufacturing, students will have an opportunity to apply to the Baccalaureate Degree Program. Courses that are part of the curriculum are designed to prepare students for technical positions in research and product development in the evolving and expanding fields of stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, stem cell-based biomanufacturing, and gene therapeutics. The curriculum will include stem cell research methods in the biomedical/ biotechnology industry and academia, stem cell-based biomanufacturing, quality assurance, specialized techniques and instrumentation, computational biology of stem cells, and stem cells and cellular neuroscience. Students are kept informed on current advances in biomanufacturing and regenerative medicine technologies by guest speakers and access to relevant technical resources and recently published scientific articles. As a career technical education-based program, emphasis is placed on participants developing technical skills necessary to meet local workforce demands. Courses are taught in an instructional laboratory setting, ISO-5/6 cleanroom equipped for biomanufacturing training and a cell culture facility allowing students to develop workplace competencies and understand professional responsibilities. Employment opportunities upon earning a bachelor's degree in Regenerative Medicine Biomanufacturing Technologies are available in the following areas: biomedical industry, academic research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, regenerative medicine biomanufacturing centers, and genetic engineering facilities.
From 2020 to 2024, a total of 33 students completed the Certificate of Achievement in Biological Technology (30+ units), averaging approximately 7 completers annually. The projected number of annual completers for the B.S. in Regenerative Medicine Biomanufacturing Technologies is 7 students. Based on recent enrollment trends, including 38 non-duplicative students in the 2024–25 academic year, the program anticipates sustaining at least 30 enrollments annually to support these completion projections.

The Keck Biotechnology Program at Pasadena City College provides career and technical education in biological technology, including specialized training in stem cell culture technologies and computational biology. The program prepares students for careers in research in both academic and industry settings, supports transfer to institutions of higher education, expands access for diverse and underrepresented student populations, and strengthens the regional workforce through partnerships, internships, and advanced training opportunities. The Baccalaureate Degree Program in Regenerative Medicine Biomanufacturing Technologies will prepare students for employment primarily in the fields of stem cell research and regenerative medicine. The program will provide advanced training in stem cell culture, stem cell-based biomanufacturing, and related laboratory and bioprocessing techniques, along with competencies in data analysis, scientific communication, and professional practice. The program will also offer a four-year pathway aligned with workforce needs that supports occupational advancement and prepares students for careers requiring a bachelor’s degree as well as continued education in graduate programs.

Course Report
An Associate of Science degree is awarded upon completing the requirements to earn a Certificate of Achievement in Biological Technology - Stem Cell Culture and Stem Cell-Based Biomanufacturing with a grade of C or better, and the required general education (GE) units. After successful completion of the A.S. degree in Biological Technology - Stem Cell Culture and Stem Cell-Based Biomanufacturing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, students can apply to the Baccalaureate Degree Program to continue their education and training in regenerative medicine biomanufacturing technologies.
Coursework will include stem cell research methods in the biomedical/ biotechnology industry and academia, stem cell-based biomanufacturing and related bioprocessing technologies to produce stem cell therapeutics, specialized techniques and instrumentation, computational biology of stem cells, and stem cells and cellular neuroscience. The scientific basis of the specialized techniques as well as the research and clinical importance of techniques will be emphasized. Employability skills needed for the workforce include scientific communication and professional responsibilities for successful employment are included.

Recent Labor Market Information (LMI) supporting similar programs (February 2026) has been included with this application. The original LMI for the Biotechnology Degree Program (BDP) was requested at the time of the BDP application in 2023; however, full approval is still pending. Therefore, the previously submitted 2023 LMI for the BDP is also included for reference. The LMI submitted with this application references bachelor’s degree pathways within TOP Code 0430. In addition, a formal LMI request specific to the updated BDP proposal was submitted to the Center of Excellence on March 17, 2026 and is currently under review.
