Catalog Description

This certificate gives students a focus on pest management in landscape and nursery settings and prepares them for the Qualified Applicator Certificate administered by the Calif. Dept. of Pesticide Regulation, a widely recognized certification among horticultural employers.

Program Goal

Upon successful completion of the program, students will demonstrate an ability to:

  • Pass the Qualified Applicator Certificate exam administered by the Calif. Dept. of Pesticide Regulation.

  •  Recognize ten or more insect pests and make judgments about monitoring and managing them in landscape or nursery settings.

  •  Recognize ten or more plant diseases and make judgements about preventing and managing them in landscape or nursery settings.

  •  Recognize three or more plant nutritional deficiencies and make judgements about addressing them in landscape or nursery settings.

  •  Read pesticide labels, understand hazards associated with products, and use appropriate application techniques according to label directions.
