PSYCHIATRICTECHNICIAN AID (PTA) CERTIFICATE (CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT) TOP CODE 1230.30
The Psychiatric Technician Aid certificate programprepares the student for an exciting career in the health care field, with anemphasis in aiding Psychiatric Technicians and other health care providers.This program prepares students to provide care in long-term care facilities,psychiatric facilities and habilitation facilities for persons diagnosed withdevelopmental disabilities. This program emphasizes safety principles,infection control, and methods for providing physical care, emotional and socialsupport. Students familiarize with the regulatory guidelines pertaining tocertify nurse assistants’ scope of practice, fundamentals of the diseaseprocess, and concepts of providing care for individuals diagnosed withIntellectual disabilities and mental illness. This program offers fundamentalsof nursing instruction approved by the Board of Vocational Nursing andPsychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). Student Learning Outcomes:
Adhereto the code of ethical conduct and apply this code to established state andfederal regulations and promote safe, quality fundamentals of nursing care.
Understandthe importance of collaboration with the interdisciplinary team duringprovision of care.
Demonstrateability to communicate any unusual occurrences noted during provision of careto the immediate care supervisor/manager.
Assistpatients and provide professional care during activities of daily living.
Demonstrateconfidence in observation and reporting data to the interdisciplinary teamduring case conferences.
The target will be 22 certificates in psychiatric technician assistant per semester for a total of 44 certificates per academic year.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible to take the State of California Nurse Assistant Certification Examination.
This certification will allow the student to gain employment and experience in the field of psychiatric technology as Psychiatric Technician Aid. This certificate will allow the student to earn economic support and until he/she completes the psychiatric technology program. Once the individual passes the Psychiatric Technician License board exam and obtains a license, the entry level Licensed Psychiatric Technician will be more marketable with the experience gained as Psychiatric Technician Aid.
