Catalog Description

This course provides information on fire apparatus, preventative maintenance and driving / operating.  Topics include routine test, inspections, and servicing functions; operate, backing, maneuver, and turn a fire apparatus in a variety of conditions; and operate all fixed systems and equipment on a fire apparatus.  Students must provide full structural personal protective equipment and fire apparatus for the final two days of class.  Fulfills the requirements for a Class C Firefighter Endorsement.

These projections are based upon the current need for this course in the Greater Sacramento area.  In speaking to the Yuba College Fire Technology Advisory Board and other regional fire agencies who have asked for this course, staff is confident that the projected numbers are accurate.

Program Requirements Narrative

Students will learn and pass physical skills tests and written exams based upon the following topics:

1. Preventative Maintenance of Fire Apparatus

a. Process of inspections, servicing and maintenance performed of fire apparatus.

b. Perform daily pre-trip inspections.

c. Trouble shoot issues found during inspections and operation.

d. Demonstrate proper documentation of all inspections and all maintenance performed.

2. Driving and Operating Fire Apparatus

a. Backing fire apparatus from roadway into a space restricted parking space.

b. Maneuvering fire apparatus around obstructions in the roadway in forward and reverse.

c. Maneuvering fire apparatus and obstructions in the roadway in forward and reverse.

d. Maneuvering fire apparatus 180 degrees within a confined space.

e. Maneuvering fire apparatus in areas with restricted horizontal and vertical clearances.

f. Operating fixed systems and equipment on a fire apparatus.
