Catalog Description

Designed to prepare students with essential knowledge and skills to examine human movement, analyze the effects of physical activity and training on the body, and be able to apply preventative and rehabilitative theories and techniques.  Students will study anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and components of fitness, while exploring the fundamentals of Kinesiology and related fields in the allied healthcare continuum. This program provides an educational background suitable for entry-level job positions in physical therapist offices, fitness and training facilities, health and wellness institutions, and is ideal for students pursuing graduate study in exercise science, physical therapy, and athletic training.  Students completing this program will also obtain a First Aide, CPR, and AED certification through the American Heart Association.

Program Goal

The Exercise Science AS degree is designed to prepare students for careers in athletic training, physical therapy, and other exercise physiology/science-related fields. The curriculum in this Exercise Science A.A. provides transfer preparation for students interested in pursuing further education in an accredited athletic training or physical therapy program while offering the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level positions in rehabilitative clinics, health clubs, and fitness and wellness centers. While a baccalaureate or higher degree is recommended, earning the associate degree would demonstrate achievement of the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in an accredited athletic training and/or physical therapy program. In addition, students will become cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certified.
