Program Requirements Narrative

This certificate is designed to be given after a students 2nd year at community college.  A students is planning to transfer to a UC or CSU after their 3rd year at a community college.  This certificate shows students have a background for scientific research, tests, writing reports, reading/following procedures, and modeling data with MATLab and Simulink Software.  With this knowledge and certificate, students will be competitive when applying as a research assistants, internships, etc.  This certificate can help a student in the following ways:

Work in an environment they are pursuing and gain engineering experience

Increase hourly wage to reduce hours and to help focus on school

If students do not earn a bachelors, this certificate shows what knowledge and skills they do have to be hired full time.

The Computational Design Certificate is a new program in our service area. Due to increased demand for engineering positions, many businesses are looking for employees in between a technician and an engineer. While students are earning their BS degree, many are looking for experience and additional income. This certificate helps employers by selecting qualified applicants and helps students by allowing them to enter the workforce before a BS degree. Student enrollments in other colleges in our service area may be impacted if they do not have a similar program. Students applying for internships/apprenticeships may be impacted by Chabot students who have earned this certificate. This certificate may be used as a model for other community colleges.
