Program Goal

Goals, Background, Associations

Purpose and Goals and Specific Objectives of Degree/CertificateThis certificate helps students understand the basics of audio physics and relevant theories of sound and sound effects in order to build sound from scratch. Through the understanding of synthesis, and sampling, students can transform sound for all music and media applications. Emphasis will be on both technical and interpersonal skills, such as: signal flow, microphone technique, as well as collaborating on group projects.

Background and Rationale

In Hollywood’s film studios, there is a holistic and endless need for those trained in various arts, including music and technology. A wide array of artists and technicians—including film scorers, songwriters, sound designers, sound engineers, studio musicians, and performers—are responsible for making the film industry work. Online streaming companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and the newly established Disney Plus, are creating content at an enormous rate. There are many jobs in this facet of the industry alone.

Video Game industry will earn a projected 150 Billion in worldwide sales in 2019. Many of these companies are also located in Los Angeles, including, Playstation, Riot Games, Activision Blizzard, and Electronic Arts. This unique industry has a need for many music and sound creators, designers, and engineers.

Place of Program in Curriculum/Similar Programs at Rio HondoThe Music and Integrated Technology program will work in tandem with the current Music Department course offerings but will focus on Music Technology and create CTE/vocational and CSU transfer opportunities for our students.
