Catalog Description

The Associate in Science in Modern Police Science is designed to fulfill a portion of the state requirements for future employment as a full time, sworn peace officer, while preparing students to continue studies toward a B.A. or B.S. degree in a discipline of their choosing.Students who pursue a Modern Police Science degree enjoy a wealth of career options in the field of law enforcement. They work in multiple areas including patrol, detectives, S.W.A.T., narcotics, reserves, K-9 handler, traffic, and more. Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the program, students will be able to Identify the procedures involved in the American justice system from arrest to release; Analyze the importance of the inter-cooperation between courts, corrections, and law enforcement within the American justice system;Demonstrate critical thinking skills and cultural awareness through the scholarly analysis of important periods in American history; Analyze organizational and institutional ethics within the American justice system, especially as they pertain to modern policing.

Enrollment Completer Projections

There were a total of 1045 students enrolled in the Administration of Justice program during the 2019/20 academic year - a 7.8%increase in students (pre-pandemic enrollment decrease during 2021/22). The Administration of Justice program consistently enrolls over 900 students per semester. A total of 144 Associate of Arts for Transfer degrees have been awarded to Administration of Justice students during the past three years.Based on this information, completer projections of the program annually are approximately 35 degrees based on the residual impacts of the Covid-19pandemic.

 

Law, Justice, and Ethics and Public Safety pathways are amongst the most popular at area high schools. This combined with the statewide need for law enforcement professionals and legislative changes ensures a clear school to career pathway. Completer projections will be evaluated during the next available review cycle.
