Catalog Description

The Accounting Specialist Certificate builds directly on the Accounting Foundations Certificate, providing additional depth in accounting systems, technology, and specialized procedures. This certificate equips students to pursue roles such as accounting clerk or bookkeeper and prepares them for further advancement through later certificates or degree programs.

Program Goal

Building upon the foundational knowledge and skills developed in the Accounting Foundations Certificate, students completing the Accounting Specialist Certificate will deepen and broaden their expertise in accounting procedures and business office technologies. This program is designed to prepare learners for immediate employment in entry-level positions such as accounting clerk or bookkeeper, and to provide a strong platform for continued advancement through subsequent certificates or degree programs in the accounting pathway.

Program Requirements Narrative

In addition to the courses required by the Accounting Foundations Certificate, this certificate requires the addition of ACCT 104 (Payroll) and 194 (Income Tax), and BSOT 10, 11, 51, and 64. The addition of Payroll Accounting and Income Tax provides students with a broader accounting knowledge. The addition of the BSOT courses provides students with a solid foundation in Excel, keyboarding, word, and 10-Key. All of these are applicable skills in an entry-level accounting position and beyond.
