Catalog Description

The Community Behavioral Health Worker Certificate of Achievement prepares students for entry-level positions in the behavioral/mental health field. This program is designed for students who are interested in working with people with mental illness or substance use disorders. Students will have a foundational understanding of the mental health field and will learn the basic counseling skills to work with this population. All of these courses are also aligned with C-ID and part of the Addictive Disorders Studies Certificate of Achievement. Career opportunities after completion of the certificate include Behavioral Health Worker, Mental Health Worker, Social and Human Service Assistants, Substance Abuse Worker, Addiction Counselor Assistant.

Program Goal

The Community Behavioral Health Worker is a Career Technical Education program that prepares students for entry-level positions in county health departments and psychiatric hospitals. It is being created in response to requests from local behavioral health organizations that are looking for entry-level employees that have basic mental health worker skills. By offering these courses. Oxnard College remains an industry leader in the delivery of education to behavioral health workers locally and statewide.

This Certificate of Achievement is designed to qualify students for entry-level positions in the behavioral health field within 1-2 semesters while they continue to work on their more comprehensive skills training.
