Catalog Description

The Drafting and Design CADD/CAM Technology Program prepares students with 2D and 3D technical drafting and software skills necessary to form a robust foundation in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) as it applies to the mechanical engineering field. The emphasis in this program is to attain software training on industry specific software. Additionally, students will learn CNC Machining using MasterCAM software to better understand the manufacturing side of design. Students will design virtual parts on a computer screen and use computer numeric controls (CNC) and machining tools to build parts. Completion of this program prepares students for entry level drafting employment using a variety of software programs typically used in local industry for 2D and 3D mechanical engineering drafting, design and manufacturing.

Enrollment Completer Projections

15-20 completions per year.

Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

This program modification proposal is to correct an error on a course number and title that was incorrectly submitted in META. No one caught the mistake until after the catalog came out. Although the four-semester sequence was correct in META, and the classes are correct when a Program Summary is run in Meta report, it is incorrect on the “Program Requirement” page of META and the Program Narrative when it is run.

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with developing a program and supports a program modification because 1) a supply gap exists for this occupation; and 2) their entry-level and median earnings are above the living wage. The colleges should also note that employers typically require a bachelor's degree as the minimum educational requirement.
