Catalog Description

The Real Estate Property Management degree incorporates the broad array of skills necessary to successfully manage rental properties. This program introduces students to the core functions of a property manager, including facilities management, marketing, customer service, human resources management, bookkeeping, leases, contracts, and other legal issues. Students will receive career preparation for entry-level positions in management of apartment, condominium, office, industrial, and retail properties.

Enrollment Completer Projections

The initial estimate is 13 students.

There is a need for real estate property managers in the Inland Empire. As noted by the Center of Excellence, real estate managers are "considered an essential critical infrastructure occupation as identified by the Public Policy Institute of California. This classification of occupations is vital in supporting California's basic economic and safety needs (Bohn et al.). Despite the ongoing pandemic, employment demand should continue due to these occupations’ critical nature and social distance ability.”

Additionally, the program is likely to attract more completers over time due to the demand for real estate property managers (more than 100 openings annually) and the fact that the majority of openings pay hourly wages in excess of the self-sustainable wage in San Bernardino County.

Program Goal

This program would be similar in nature to other programs offered by the Chaffey College Business department. The department offers a Management A.S. and Certificate. For many years, it has also offered specialized management programs. Examples include Retail Management, Facilities Management, and Supply Chain Management. Like those other specialized programs, the Real Estate Property Management program will expose students to concepts and techniques that provide specific preparation for work in a specific field of endeavor. It will better prepare them for immediate employment and to kick off a career in real estate property management. It is targeted directly at that career and is, therefore, more relevant to them than one of the broader programs in Management or Real Estate (which are the types of programs that students may find in some of the other colleges in Region 9). The program is also related to the Real Estate A.S. degree/certificate and the Real Estate Salesperson certificate in that these programs include courses that focus on a single area of Business – Real Estate. There is some crossover in the courses required for the Real Estate program. Students who complete the Real Estate Facilities Management program will also automatically earn a Real Estate Salesperson certificate.
