Digital Content Creation
New Program
Digital Media (061400)
08/18/25
The Digital Content Creation program equips students with both technical and creative skills through training in professional software and hands-on projects that simulate real-world production workflows. It provides a comprehensive foundation in media production, covering key areas such as graphic design, photography, film production, and multimedia. These skills are applicable across visual, video, and audio content creation, preparing students for entry-level roles in web production, online content creation, and social media management.
The program consists of a combination of 12 core units and 12 units from elective classes for a total of 24 units.
The 12 core units include four introductory classes that cover the fundamentals of graphic design, photography, film production, and multimedia (digital imaging). Students then select an additional 12 units from a list of elective intermediate classes to deepen their expertise in specific areas of interest.
Options include video editing, advanced photography, critical thinking, intermediate graphic design, audio production, social networking, social media, online marketing and 3D animation, among others. This flexible structure allows students to tailor their learning experience while gaining a broad understanding of the various disciplines within digital content creation.
The program will make emphasis on creating a varied portfolio through class work, specially through the final project for each class. A good personal portfolio is fundamental to apply to a job and for admission in a four year institution if the student is preparing to transfer. The fact that we cover different disciplines will help students create good work that integrates design, digital imaging, video and audio into their pieces.
Students can pursue a Certificate Award or an Associates of Science. Upon completion of the program they can opt for employment or transfer to a four year institution in the field.
Student Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Upon completion of this class students will be able to:
Develop sophisticated imagery that conveys a message.
Demonstrate digital image management skills (workflow, archiving and color management).
Create designs using industry-standard software and tools as well as proper output procedures for digital use.
Capture, digitize, and edit video files.
Develop concrete skills in intermediate Media production.

Career Opportunities
The Digital Content Creation program provides a technical and creative overview of the processes in the field that will prepare for entry jobs in the general digital media industry.
Our Media departments prepare technical professionals in occupational fields pertaining to Media Production, as evidenced in the LMI report. Students completing a Certificate Award are qualified for employment in those entry level occupations: (27-4011) Audio and Video technicians, (27-4014) Sound Engineering Technicians, (27-4015) Lighting Technicians, (27-4000) Media and Communication Equipment Workers, (27-4010) Broadcast, Sound, and Lighting Technicians, (27-4021) Photographers, (27-4030) Television, Video, and Film Camera Operators and Editors, (27-4031) Camera Operators for Television, Video, and Film; (27-4099) Media and Communication Equipment Workers, All Other.
Students completing the AS degree will have an opportunity to transition to a transfer pathway that will lead them to a Bachelor's degree program in any of these fields. They will also be able to access entry level positions in some of those occupations and then, through accumulating professional experience and internships, continue to higher-level positions.
