Catalog Description

The Human Resource Certificate covers essential concepts in Human Resource Management. Students will develop skills to minimize potential liabilities in tough areas such as: hiring, terminations, workers’ compensation, and sexual harassment, best practices in performance appraisals, better hiring techniques, planning benefit packages, and maintaining a safe work environment which can help the Human Resource Manager recruit and retain a diverse top notch workforce.  The Bakersfield College Human Resource Certificate of Achievement is primarily designed to provide formal training for careers in human resources-related jobs, such as human resources management, recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits, and employee relations.

Upon completion of the required courses with at least a “C” or “P” (pass) grade in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.

Program Learning Outcomes:
1. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to analyze and interpret the legal and ethical frameworks governing Human Resource Management.
2. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing key HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and performance management, by applying relevant HR techniques and best practices.
3. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to explain how Federal, State, and local laws affect public and private employers, and apply this knowledge to ensure organizational compliance and promote equitable treatment in the workplace.
4. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to evaluate labor relations and collective bargaining agreements in both public and private sectors and analyze their impact and implications.

Program Goal

A demand for Human Resource Management roles in our service region has spurred the creation of a Certificate in Human Resources. This certificate addresses the increasing demand by facilitating career progression or equipping students for entry-level roles in Human Resources. This program offers a more cost-effective option to our community.
