Catalog Description

This certificate prepares students for a career as an AI Business Analyst, a role that bridges the gap between business operations and artificial intelligence. The curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in business principles , information systems , and data analytics. Students will learn to analyze business processes to identify automation opportunities , use Python for data analysis , and apply generative AI tools ethically and creatively. The program culminates in a capstone project where students design, build, and manage automated workflows using AI agents, preparing them to create intelligent systems that execute complex tasks and drive data-informed decisions in a business environment.

Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

The Program Requirements for the Certificate of Achievement in AI Systems Analyst consist of a 22-unit, three-semester sequence of courses. The curriculum is designed to meet the program's goals by building a comprehensive foundation in business operations, information systems, and generative AI. This is followed by a semester of core technical skill development in programming, data analytics, and automation, culminating in a final capstone project to synthesize all learned skills.

The program's 22 units are sequenced to build knowledge and skills logically over three semesters:

  • Semester 1: Foundational Concepts (10 units) The first semester establishes the business and technology context. BUMA 010 provides the necessary understanding of contemporary business operations, while CIS 010 introduces the information systems that support them. This pairing prepares students to bridge the gap between business operations and artificial intelligence. DDP 106 introduces students to the core technology of generative AI from a creative and practical perspective.

  • Semester 2: Core Technical Skills (9 units) The second semester focuses on building the specific technical competencies required of an AI Systems Analyst. CIS 087 (or CIS 088) develops proficiency in Python, the leading programming language for data analytics and AI. CIS 081 trains students in the complete data analysis lifecycle, from data gathering to visualization. Finally, CIS 091 provides direct, hands-on skills in agentic automation, teaching students how to analyze business processes and design AI-powered workflows.

  • Semester 3: Capstone Application (3 units) The final semester consists of CIS 096, which serves as the program's capstone project. In this course, students will synthesize the business acumen, systems analysis, programming, and AI automation skills from the previous semesters. They will design, build, and manage automated workflows, culminating in a functional, portfolio-ready AI solution that demonstrates mastery of the program's learning outcomes.
