Catalog Description

This certification of achievement serves as preparation and concentration for students who want to enter the fields of addiction studies, addiction education, human services, counseling, or social work.

Program Outcomes

  1. Identify and critically evaluate the relative strengths and biases of the major research, theories, and models of substance use, abuse, and addiction.
  2. Apply principles of prevention and intervention personally and within various social settings (including related vocational, educational, criminal justice, and health organizations).
  3. Model skills used in a helping relationship.
  4. Compare and contrast the types of chemically dependent families and analyze intergenerational family dynamics.
  5. Design comprehensive treatment plans using sound assessment and diagnostic information as well as coordinate, monitor, and document services.
  6. Appraise my own professional conduct with the intention of enhancing self-awareness and performance through relevant continuing education and use of supervision.
