Program Goal

The goal of Pasadena City College’s Automotive Technology program is to prepare graduates with the skills necessary to enter the workforce as entry-level technicians. With the addition of the Honda PACT program, we are developing an opportunity to give our students a faster pathway to an entry level technician position for Honda dealerships and Honda Independent shops. Because this program delivers Honda-specific courses, students will engage in training material used by Honda to train their technicians. The program curriculum will be taught completely online by Automotive Faculty at Pasadena City College, without additional industry costs to students. This program provides students the necessary professional training to lead to better job opportunities.

With the structure of this certificate, current and previous PCC Automotive Technology students along with graduates from other accredited MAST Auto Tech programs will meet the requirements to enroll in this program. The courses are structured to coincide with the necessary knowledge and skills acquired during completion or concurrent enrollment in the PCC Automotive Technology - All Automotive Systems certificate.  The prerequisites and requirements of the PCC Honda PACT program courses are put carefully in place to ensure foundational content knowledge is attained to ensure successful completion of the Honda PACT coursework.

By offering these courses asynchronously online, this teaching modality allows past students out in the workforce to return to school and get manufacturer-specific training without interfering with their work schedule.  Furthermore, it allows currently enrolled AUTO students to complete the Honda PACT courses alongside their primary certificate and/or associate degree courses without interfering with their in-person class schedule.

Because this program is taught completely online and students can complete the coursework through PCC, there are not any additional industry costs for students. Any student that has satisfied the course prerequisite is eligible to enroll in the courses of this program. Enrollment for this certificate will not be selective.

Reason for program recommendation request

New Program

Place of program in college's curriculum/similar program
PCC’s Honda PACT program will be taught in conjunction with the existing Automotive Technology – All Automotive Systems certificate curriculum. It offers specific manufacture training and it uses the general program as a prerequisite.
List similar programs at other colleges in the Los Angeles Region
Currently, there are 3 other schools near Pasadena City College that offer a Honda PACT program: Golden West College, Cerritos College, and Rio Hondo College. The significant difference between our program and the other 3 is the mode of delivery. The PCC program is fully online and can be taken during or after the PCC Automotive Technology - All Automotive Systems program. This flexibility of learning will bring in more graduates and working professionals who do not have to choose between work and school.
Annual Enrollment projects (non-duplicative)
We project 15 annual completers.
