Secondary Education (Pre-Professional)

The Secondary Education (Pre-Professional) Certificate is intended to provide students with skills necessary to work with secondary education students (middle and high school) in an after-school setting, provide tutoring or homework assistance, or assist in academic enrichment programs. This certificate is also pre-professional preparation for students preparing to transfer to a university to earn a bachelor's degree and single subject teaching credential.

This is a new certificate for an existing population (future secondary teachers) whose numbers have not previously been identified.  Santa Ana College currently offers two Education courses for this population (EDUC 210 and 204) and annual enrollment in those classes are around 30-40.  However, the Center for Teacher Education has a database of future teachers with approximately 135 students identified as future secondary (middle, high school, or CTE) teachers.
