Catalog Description
Students may earn an Associate in Science degree with a major in Business by completing a minimum of 18 units from any blend of courses offered in the departments of Business Administration, Business Education Technologies, and Business Real Estate and Escrow or from any courses offered for a certificate in those programs. The minimum 18 units for the Business major may come from any of the following: Any Business Administration course except BADM 138 Any Business Education Technology course except BET 138 Any Business Real Estate course except BRE 138 ALDH 80, 81, 139, CIS 101, ECON 101, 102, MATH 105, 120 Students may wish to consider majoring in Business Administration, Business Education Technologies, or Business Real Estate and Escrow rather than general Business, in order to assure a stronger curriculum base. Transfer: See Business Administration or Business Education Technologies for transfer requirements
Enrollment Completer Projections
The ten year average of AS degrees awarded in Business Administration, Business Education Technologies, and Business Real Estate combined is 102. In addition, there are about 5 certificates of 30 units or more awarded per year from these three programs. This demonstrates high interest in the area of business and therefore it is estimated that there will be 50 AS Business degrees awarded annually. There could be a reduction in degrees awarded in the other three business programs, but overall, there should be net increase in degrees awarded with this added degree.

Program Goal
The Business degree is an interdisciplinary set of courses designed to provide the students with general business related skills that will be applicable for entry-level positions in sectors such as sales/retailing, merchandising, service-related businesses, as well as for self-employment. This degree provides students with the flexibility to enroll in courses and design a program based on their interests or specific occupational goal. Students can select courses in Business Administration, Business Education Technologies, and Business Real Estate, or any combination of these departments. Because of the flexibility in the student’s ability to select courses across several business disciplines, the learning outcomes will depend upon the courses selected. However, the focus of assessment will be on two core areas, communication and self-development. Upon completion of the AS in Business Degree, the student will be able to fulfill the following program learning objectives: Communication: Students will demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate business information in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner through written documents, oral presentations, and use of technology. Self-Development: Students will identify and increase their knowledge and skill requirements for their area of business interest. These objectives are integral characteristics of workforce preparation, skills, and civic education for our students. Many students will be able to move up within the organization they currently work for or step into an entry level supervisory position or training through completion of this certificate.
