Explanation/Program Goal: This new certificate is being added to an existing program, originally approved in the 1980s and will replace an existing certificate of proficiency. Relative to the program goal, this certificate will prepare students for the California Real Estate Salesperson License by accomplishing all the education requirements for this license, prescribed by the California Department of Real Estate.
Program Requirements: Requirements include completion of 2 specific real estate courses and 1 course from a list of electives, totaling 9 units.
Prerequisites/Limitations: There are no prerequisites required, or limitations for this certificate.
PSLOs include:
- Explain how agency relationships and fiduciary duty affect the responsibilities of Real Estate Salesperson
- Identify the various ways of holding title to real property, including any rights of survivorship
Catalog Description: This certificate of achievement meets the California Department of Real Estate education requirements for the Real Estate Salesperson License, which allows for immediate vocational employment. It is recommended for anyone wishing to qualify for the DRE Salesperson Exam and enter the real estate industry in the area of sales, leasing, lending, investment and development of single family, multi-family and commercial properties.
From 2012-2018, more than 400 students completed the requirements of this certificate at IVC. With these numbers and annual program enrollment of approximately 400 (un-duplicated), the goal is maintain over 50 completers per year.

Occupational goal for those entering a career in real estate sales, property management, loan origination, real estate development and related fields.

To accomplish the goals of this certificate, students can take sequential classes online or in person (RE 170 & RE 172) in one or two semesters. All real estate classes are offered in 8-week sections, so adult learners and full-time students can manage outside responsibilities and those of learning a new industry.
