Catalog Description

Provides a broad range of knowledge to prepare students for a career as a technician working on todays advanced Agriculture, Diesel, and Heavy Equipment. Students will study in areas of electrical, HVAC, manual and automatic transmissions, diesel, ag mechanics, plumbing, electrical, welding, equipment operation, safety, hydraulics, and complete an internship. Completion of this certificate will prepare students to pass the ASE Certifications: A1, A2, A6, A7, A9, and students will receive an EPA609 certification.

 Program Outcomes

  1. Evaluate complex diagnostic problems on both gasoline and diesel equipment and be able to make the correct repairs.
  2. Demonstrate academic proficiency by passing the EPA Section 609 Certification.
  3. Maintain persistence in the program as evidenced by 30% of students who have completed 3 or more ATCH or AGM Courses earning and acquiring a Program Certificate or better.

Program Goal

In response to several years of Ag Advisory Committee meeting input, labor market wage data, and strong support from Quinn Company, Cuesta proposes an Equipment Technician Certificate of Achievement. This certificate will be comprised of three existing AGM courses, seven existing ATCH courses, one internship, and a new ATCH course called Modern Diesel Technology (ATCH 255). This will be a 44.5 unit certificate that will produce highly skilled, employable technicians.
