The Administration of Justice: Certificate of Achievement in Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Probation Department curriculum prepares the student in basic training for an entry-level juvenile corrections officer. Subject areas include an overview of the criminal justice system, the roles and responsibilities of the juvenile corrections officer, casework management, court procedures, psychological and medical issues, correctional security issues, gang and drug problems, supervision of offenders, arrest procedures, confidentiality, and report writing.

Program Goal
The certificate of achievement is designed to provide the student with an overview of the history and trends of adult and juvenile corrections including probation and parole. It will focus on the legal issues, specific laws and general operation of correctional institutions. The relationship between corrections and other components of the judicial system will also be examined. Students will have an opportunity to consider career options and employment opportunities.
