Catalog Description

This program meets the minimum training requirements established by the California Standards and Training for Public Safety Officers for those officers engaged in traffic investigations. The requirement to complete this course is successful graduation from the Basic POST Academy. This Certificate recognizes law enforcement personnel who have completed traffic training to better prepare themselves for the rigors and challenges of being a traffic expert. The skills developed in these classes will enhance the student's knowledge in collision investigations, advanced traffic collision, emergency response, review of the scene of an incident and hand investigation-related responsibilities to determine the cause, fault factor, and other vital matters, especially in the case of a fatality.

Program Goal

The Public Safety Certificate of Achievement in Traffic is designed to prepare students to meet the needs of mid-level positions in traffic investigations. The curriculum prepares students with a foundation in law enforcement and provides them with the knowledge to enter careers dealing with mid-level traffic jobs. The skills developed in these courses will enhance the student's knowledge in vehicular laws and violations, response to and investigations of all major traffic collisions, vehicular reports and the necessary vernacular, and all procedural policies regarding traffic in terms of public safety.
