Program Requirements Narrative

It is imperative to create guided pathways for student success, retention, and completion. The business department recognizes these needs as well as the needs for stackable certificates/degrees. The students will be challenged with the course content of the Certificate of Achievement in Small Business Management which can be delivered wholly through the online modality. This certificate aligns with the second, third, and fourth elements of the comprehensive institutional master plan (see attached). When researching similar certificates at other community colleges in our service areas, it was found most institutions had identical programs or very similar programs (see attached). Employment Development Department occupational projections for our region is provided (see attached) where students earning this certificate will be at an advantage after certificate completion. However, this certificate is most applicable to individuals starting or will start their own business and will be self-employed. Attached is the Centers of Excellence information for management occupations and business and financial operations occupations where this certificate is most applicable. Also, attached are labor market demand with five-year projections where this certificate is most applicable.
